Areas and fields of rebar application

Construction is an important field of human work in which many different materials, substances, elements and structures are used. This article discusses rebar, a metal connecting element used everywhere in construction. Without rebar it is impossible to build a large and reliable building. That is why rebar is so often used for the construction of buildings, structures and various assemblies. Rebar can be different. To understand its fields of application, it is first worth understanding the classes and types into which it is divided.

What Types of Rebar Exist?

Rebar classification is quite broad and complex. Construction rebar is divided into working, installation, structural rebar and stirrups. Depending on its position in space, rebar can be transverse or longitudinal. By external characteristics, this element can have a smooth or ribbed profile. The first type has no ribbed surface, unlike the second. Ribbed rebar provides better adhesion to construction material such as concrete. Rebar is also divided by classes, and this deserves separate attention.

Rebar Classes

The areas and fields of rebar application directly depend on rebar classes, which are defined by special standards. There are 6 classes that can be designated in two ways. The first method uses the capital letter A and a Roman numeral: AI, AII, AIII, AIV, AV, AVI. The second method uses the capital letter A and an Arabic number: A240, A300, A400, A600, A800, A1000. This class division was created to simplify many processes related to construction. There is a separate table of rebar classes containing the characteristics of each class.

Rebar Use in Construction

Rebar is indispensable in construction. Each type of rebar has its own purpose. Working rebar reduces loads, distribution rebar distributes these loads, and a stirrup ties rods into a single frame. Installation rebar performs an auxiliary function when working with other types of this metal element and is also used to assemble various frames.

Longitudinal rebar is actively used to strengthen a structure along the vertical axis and to prevent bends and tilts, while transverse rebar strengthens structures when there is stress on a horizontal surface.

The most common rebar classes are AI and AIII. These are installation rebars with smooth and ribbed profiles. For example, class AIII has fairly high strength and is therefore suitable for many construction operations. Class AIV rebar is often used to create frames, for example for building foundations.

The areas and fields of rebar application include:

  • creating the frame of a capital structure;

  • strengthening concrete structures;

  • reinforcing floors, screeds, columns and load-bearing parts of a building;

  • intermediate strengthening during construction of brick structures, wall and fence cladding, fastening adjacent structures;

  • strengthening ready-made reinforced concrete structures, including use in reinforced concrete slabs during multi-story construction;

  • forming ready-made frames for strengthening building foundations;

  • installing frames for subsequent decorative use.

The areas and fields of rebar application are extremely important, because using this metal connecting element in different construction processes makes a building reliable and durable.
